The Credit Coalition, a HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agency provides free financial and homebuyer counseling and education, financial coaching, reverse mortgage counseling, resources and outreach services to community members in the greater Houston and Beaumont/Port Arthur areas. The Credit Coalition’s purpose is to empower its clients through financial and homebuyer counseling and education, to be able to make informed, reasonable and responsible decisions in regard to their financial and specific housing goals.

The Credit Coalition is a nonprofit organization whose membership includes financial institutions, community organizations and other related businesses. Qualified volunteer professionals in the fields of finance, credit, consumer rights and homebuyer education, teach the FREE 6-week, 15-hour comprehensive educational series, “Fundamentals of Good Credit”. The Credit Coalition is a Reverse Mortgage Education Project Participating Agency, counseling seniors interested in reverse mortgages. The Credit Coalition has partnered with the “Bank on Houston” program which is designed to help consumers without a primary banking relationship gain access to basic financial services. The Credit Coalition’s Executive Director/Housing Counselor is currently NCHEC certified in Pre-purchase and Post-purchase Homeownership Education, Homeownership Counseling, Financial Capability and Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling.

Completion of the 15-hour “Fundamentals of Good Credit” results in the client earning the Credit Coalition’s Financial and Homebuyer Education Completion Certificate. Upon graduation from the series, each client will have an understanding of his own financial wellness and overall credit health. Through the series, “Fundamentals of Good Credit”, the Credit Coalition’s clients are empowered to change their lives with financial knowledge and reach their specific financial and housing goals.

The Credit Coalition’s, “Fundamentals of Good Credit”, is recognized as an approved homebuyer counseling/education course for many Houston area down payment assistance providers and meets the financial education requirement for the Houston Area Individual Development Account (IDA) Savings Programs.
